The 2011 European Surfing Chamionships were recently completed in perfect Irish surf leading to one of the best English teams performance for a long time.
In the Womens division Sarah Beardmore of Bournemouth surfed to victory and claimed the first European title for England in a long time. Ben Howarth came second in the Longboard division to defending champion Ben Skinner and Alan Stokes came 3rd in the Open.

Taking part in the course were Porthleven hellman Dan 'Mole' Joel, resting actor Fabrizio Postiglione, water safety officer Richard Platt (Richie provided the water patrol during the Thurso comp this April), sibling rippers Josh and Paddy Daniel, and lastly, local surfers Tom Hayden and Robin Matthews.

This event, so named because it is a purely amateur surfing competition where sponsored surfers are barred from entering, boasted an incredibly high standard of surfing and a new backer of the event - Hurley International.
