2011 European Championships

2011 European Surfing Championships   10/10/2011

The 2011 European Surfing Chamionships were recently completed in perfect Irish surf leading to one of the best English teams performance for a long time.

In the Womens division Sarah Beardmore of Bournemouth surfed to victory and claimed the first European title for England in a long time. Ben Howarth came second in the Longboard division to defending champion Ben Skinner and Alan Stokes came 3rd in the Open.

ASI Level 1 Course

ASI Surf Level 1 Surf Instructor Course   20/06/2011

Seven new surf coaches are setting out for a life of surf coaching! This weekend saw our ASI surf instructor course completed sucessfully in Gwithian in our purpose built training facility.

Taking part in the course were Porthleven hellman Dan 'Mole' Joel, resting actor Fabrizio Postiglione, water safety officer Richard Platt (Richie provided the water patrol during the Thurso comp this April), sibling rippers Josh and Paddy Daniel, and lastly,  local surfers Tom Hayden and Robin Matthews.

Cash for Tricks/ Big Beach Experience   12/07/2011

Have a look at this amazing surfing from Budes Reubyn Ash. He won the Nike 'Cash for Tricks' event at Newquay on the 9th of July. This is what we are all aiming for! Sadly this will take somewhere in the region of 10,000 hours of dedicated practise to achieve.

2011 Hurley No Pro

2011 Hurley No Pro   12/09/2011

The 17th annual Gwithian Academy of Surfing ‘No Pro’ was completed last Saturday (10th September) in howling cross-shore head-high waves and showery weather. This event, so named because it is a purely amateur surfing competition where sponsored surfers are barred from entering, boasted an incredibly high standard of surfing and a new backer of the event - Hurley International.
