Stunning beaches and a beautiful environment
The surfing lifestyle is built around a love for the ocean and St Ives Bay in Cornwall is one of the best environments that a surfer could hope for.
We are fortunate that there is almost always surf and the beach is long enough for you to find space even in summer.
Most of our surfing takes place at the beautiful National Trust beach of Gwithian and Godrevy, the start of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that stretches up the coast along the North Cliffs.

How long are the lessons?
All equipment included in the price of the lesson – just bring a swimsuit, towel and sunscreen.
Is the equipment provided?
Is it easy to find a parking space?
We welcome all surfers, from beginners right up to elite level. Our coaches can tailor the lessons for any ability.
Do you teach beginners?
We have superb, private indoor changing facilities and a secure area to store your kit.
Will I have to get changed outside?
We will teach anyone over the age of 8yrs. For younger children private lessons may be required.
What is the minimum age?
Gwithian Academy of Surfing is an ASI Approved Surf School and only employs qualified surf coaches and lifeguards.
Are you qualified?
Our surf school is situated in a prime location that’s a short level walk from the beach.
Are you close to the beach?
We aim to find time to teach everyone but during the summer months it is advisable to book.

At our surf school we take surf tuition seriously and work hard to make sure that your surfing lesson is as fun and rewarding as possible. For this reason all of our coaches are fully qualified as surf coaches, lifeguards and first aiders and two have even coached the British Junior Surfing Team on a number of occasions. A surf lesson with us can help you to achieve all of your surfing goals.
Gwithian Academy of Surfing is an Academy of Surfing Instructors Accredited Surf School (one of only three in Britain) that operates from Gwithian – the Northernmost point of St Ives Bay – and is very close to the towns of Hayle, St Ives and Penzance.
The surf school is run from a purpose built beach-side location where we can offer changing facilities, a classroom for teaching surfing theory and facilities for video analysis within an easy level walk of the shoreline. The surf school is right next to a large car park so parking is always available.
Gwithian Academy of Surfing offers group and private surfing lessons for all levels – beginners, intermediate and advanced- and for all ages. We regularly cater for families, backpackers, children, schools and corporate groups.
Accommodation can also be provided in our beautiful seaside village to help make your stay the perfect surfing holiday.
